Montreal Impact sign midfielder Alejandro Silva from Lanus

The Montreal Impact have signed Uruguay international Alejandro Silva from Argentine club Lanus.

Silva, 28, completed his move on Monday by signing a three-year contract with the Canadian club, which used targeted allocation money to complete the deal.

Aside from a few loans, the attacking midfielder has played for Lanus for the last five years, scoring 10 goals with eight assists in 58 league games, and helped his club reach the final of the Copa Libertadores in November.

"Alejandro is an attacking player who will bring his experience to the team and increase our options in the last third," Impact coach Remi Garde said. "His passing qualities and his speed will contribute in improving our play. His high work rate also makes him an option as a midfielder."

By using TAM to sign Silva, the Impact retain one free designated player slot amid reports linking them to French centre-back Rudy Camacho.
