FC Dallas seals signing of designated player Santiago Mosquera

FC Dallas completed the signing of Colombian midfielder Santiago Mosquera as a designated player on Monday.

Mosquera, 23, comes from Millonarios on an undisclosed transfer reported to be in the region of $4 million.

He only made his first-team professional debut with Millonarios as a 21-year-old in 2016 but quickly became an important fixture in the lineup, scoring eight goals as he helped his club win the 2017 Clausura title in Colombia.

"Mosquera has all the things we were looking for this offseason," FC Dallas technical director Fernando Clavijo said in a statement. "He plays specifically how Oscar [Pareja] would like to play.

"It was not an easy signing because he is a very high-quality player. He will make us better, for sure. He allows us to open up space on the field for Mauro [Diaz] and have a strong offensive lineup."

Mosquera, who qualifies as a young designated player with a limited salary budget hit, will join Carlos Gruezo and Cristian Colman as the DPs in Dallas this season.

The move comes after Dallas loaned Anibal Chala, another young DP, to Quito in Ecuador for a second straight season.
