Everton in talks to sign Besiktas striker Cenk Tosun - sources

Everton are in talks to sign Besiktas striker Cenk Tosun, sources close to the Merseyside club have told ESPN FC, and are confident of finalising a move as soon as the transfer window opens in January

Everton have made signing a new striker one of their main priorities after failing to replace Romelu Lukaku in the summer following his move to Manchester United and the 26-year-old is set to become Sam Allardyce's first signing.

Besiktas were reluctant to sell Tosun after reaching the knockout stages of the Champions League, but Everton's offer of £25 million for the player has been too good to turn down.

Tosun scored 20 goals last season to help Besiktas win the Turkish Super Lig and he has continued that rich vein of form in front of goal this term with 13 goals, including four in the Champions League.

Crystal Palace saw a bid for Tosun rejected by Besiktas on transfer deadline day in August, while Tottenham and Newcastle have also been credited with an interest in the 26-year-old.

Everton have struggled for goals this season and it has been a contributing factor to their poor form in the campaign before Allardyce's arrival in November.

The former England manager has guided Everton away from trouble with a seven-game unbeaten run, but wants to add goals to his side in the second half of the campaign.
