Who were Africa's top performers around the world this weekend?

Which of the continent's stars stole the show around the world this weekend?

Cedric Bakambu: Despite his undisputed qualities, Bakambu rarely gets the same kind of attention as some of Africa's other top stars.

However, his scoring record at Villarreal so far this season - eight goals in eight La Liga outings - has put him firmly on course to beat his best-ever tally in the Spanish top flight (12 in 2015-16).

The Congolese hitman offers pace, intelligence and excellent off-the-ball movement, and demonstrated these attributes in abundance in the Yellow Submarine's 4-0 demolition of Las Palmas on Sunday.

Bakambu opened the scoring when he broke the deadlock with an angled finish early in the second half, breaching the visitors' stubborn defence and setting Villarreal on their way to a convincing victory.

Keita Balde: One of the big African movers of the summer transfer window, Balde swapped Lazio for AS Monaco after catching the eye with a series of electric goalscoring displays in Serie A last term.

However, injuries have stymied his progress in Ligue 1 since sealing a €30 million switch in August.

The forward went goalless during his first six matches for his new club, and too often found himself on the peripheries during Monaco's muddled start to the season.

Thus far, he's wholly failed to cushion the loss of Kylian Mbappe, but he broke his duck on Saturday - firing past Caen's Remy Vercoutre after being played in by Thomas Lemar - as Monaco picked up a 2-0 triumph.

Could his strike at the weekend prompt a turnaround in the Senegal starlet's fortunes?

Bingourou Kamara could have been forgiven for heading into Strasbourg's fixture against OGC Nice this weekend with some trepidation.

After all, the stopper hadn't kept a clean sheet since mid August, and would surely have his work cut out against a Nice side that boasted the attacking talents of Alassane Plea, Wesley Sneijder and Allan Saint-Maximin.

Ultimately, Kamara did concede - but not before Cape Verdean forward Joia Nuno Da Costa had struck twice for the visitors, and the goalkeeper was to thank for keeping Les Aiglons at bay after his team were reduced to 10 men.

He produced breathtaking stops to deny - successively - Saint-Maxim, Sneijder and Plea as the visitors claimed three valuable points in their battle to beat the drop.

Sofiane Boufal: There aren't too many players on the planet who could score the kind of goal that Boufal did on Saturday.

The Morocco international has barely shown the depth and breadth of his qualities since swapping LOSC Lille for Southampton in August 2016, with one wonder goal against Sunderland a rare highlight in a disappointing spell.

However, handed his opportunity against West Bromwich Albion this weekend, Boufal didn't disappoint.

He broke the deadlock in the 85th minute when he picked up the ball in his own half, shrugged off a series of challenges, slalomed past five players before prodding a delicious right-footed shot past Ben Foster.

Saints fans will hope that this was the goal - and the performance - that truly launches the playmaker's Premier League career.

Lamine Sane: Regularly this season, Hannover centre-back Salif Sane has been lauded as one of the Bundesliga's finest centre-backs, however, this weekend it's his brother Lamine who deserves the credit after an outstanding display.

The former Bordeaux man was in flawless form for Werder Bremen in their visit to FC Cologne, delivering a monstrous display in the heart of the backline to preserve a clean sheet and take a point for the visitors.

Sane registered a whopping 12 clearances and seven interceptions, and was equal to everything the hosts threw at him.
