New York City FC will be without full-back Ronald Matarrita for at least three months after he suffered a broken foot in Thursday's 3-1 victory over Minnesota United.
The 22-year-old had surgery on his fifth metatarsal on Friday morning, according to the club's official release, and will face a 3-4 month recovery process.
Matarrita has made nine appearances for NYCFC this season, providing two assists in 585 minutes of play.
The Costa Rica international has made 18 appearances for his country.
The former LD Alajuelense man had been called up to the Ticos' Gold Cup squad in anticipation of next month's competition.
