Roma agree deal to sign Lyon midfielder Maxime Gonalons - Aulas

Maxime Gonalons will leave Lyon to sign with Roma, the french club's president confirmed on Thursday.

Gonalons, 28, had been linked to Premier League side Newcastle United, but with just a year left on his Lyon contract, he is set to depart.

"Maxime came in this morning to sign his termination agreement," Jean-Michel Aulas said. "We've agreed with Roma, we part on very good terms."

Multiple outlets in Italy reported the transfer to be worth €5 million and said Gonalons would sign a four-year contract.

Earlier in the day, the midfielder's agent had tweeted that a deal had been settled.

"Agreement reached [between] Olympique Lyonnais and AS Roma for the transfer of Maxime Gonalons," agent Frederic Guerra wrote. "Medical Monday in Rome...thank you to the two presidents."

Speaking to LaRoma24, Guerra added: "I can confirm that it's all done for Gonalons to Roma, I think for €5m. We should arrive in the capital on Sunday and the medical is expected on Monday. The player will sign a four-year contract."

L'Equipe reported earlier this week that Gonalons, who has made 241 Ligue 1 appearances after coming through Lyon's youth academy, had agreed personal terms on a four-year contract in the Italian capital.
