AC Milan sign Mateo Musacchio from Villarreal on four-year contract

AC Milan have announced that they have completed the signing of Mateo Musacchio from Villarreal on a four-year contract.

Musacchio, 26, completed a medical in Milan a week ago and has now signed his contract with the Serie A club after an agreement -- reported to be in the region of €18 million, but not confirmed by the Italian club -- was struck with Villarreal.

"AC Milan announce that they have acquired the sporting rights from Villarreal CF to Mateo Musacchio, who has signed a contract until 30 June 2021," read a statement on the Rossoneri's website.

The defender already holds an Italian passport and therefore does not count toward the quota of non-EU players permitted in each squad.

He moved to Spain from River Plate in 2009 and made his Liga debut in February 2010, eventually becoming Villarreal captain and making a total of 249 appearances and scoring seven goals.

Capped six times by Argentina, he becomes Milan's first new signing since Silvio Berlusconi relinquished control of the club to the Shanghai-based Sino-Europe Sports Group.

His arrival could be followed by that of Franck Kessie from Atalanta, with the 20-year-old undergoing a medical in Milan on Tuesday.
