Molde's Ole Gunnar Solskjaer approached about Norway job

Molde have given the Norwegian Football Federation (NFF) permission to speak to their manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer about the vacant Norway manager's job, according to club director Oystein Neerland.

Former Manchester United striker and Cardiff City manager Solskjaer scored 23 goals for Norway in 63 appearances between 1995 and 2007, putting him fifth in their all-time scoring chart.

"The facts are that we've received a request from the NFF asking for permission to talk to Ole Gunnar. We've said yes to that," Neerland is quoted as saying by Rbnett.

However he added that he expects 43-year-old Solskjaer to stay at Molde.

"It's our understanding that Ole Gunnar will be MFK's coach for the upcoming season as well," he added.

The Norwegian Eliteserien runs from March until November.

The role has been vacant since Per-Mathias Hogmo stepped down in November 2016 after three years in charge in which Norway failed to qualify for the 2014 World Cup and 2016 European Championship.

After four games of 2018 World Cup qualifying Norway sit fifth in Group C, four points behind second-placed Northern Ireland.

The NFF have said they are talking to several candidates about replacing Hogmo, but have declined to confirm specific names.
