With the tournament just one month away, Brazil announced their 23-man World Cup squad on Monday.
Sadly, an untimely injury means that Dani Alves will miss out of representing his country at a third World Cup, thus opening up a right-back berth for one of his understudies.
Indeed, it was Corinthians defender Fagner who claimed Alves' vacated spot, and the moment the 28-year-old found out he was going to Russia with the Selecao was a moment of pure joy.
Brilliant.
Head coach Tite's decision to call up Fagner has proved slightly controversial, especially as many fans assumed Man City's Danilo was the next full-back in line for a call-up.
There's also the small matter of Fagner not having played for Corinthians since late April due to a niggling thigh injury.
