Schalke's new signing Coke will be sidelined after suffering a knee injury in a friendly on Thursday.
The 29-year-old defender, who only completed his move from Sevilla on Wednesday, suffered damage to the posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during his debut for his new club against Bologna.
He is now set for an extended spell on the sidelines as the new Bundesliga season begins.

In a club statement, Schalke said he would be examined again in the days to come.
"We are all shocked. I feel awfully sorry for Coke, because he integrated incredibly well since his arrival," sporting director Christian Heidel said.
"Coke will receive every support from us to come back from injury."
