Man United might tempt Leicester's Danny Drinkwater back to Old Trafford

The transfer window might be shut, but don't think the wheeling and dealing won't continue!

Free transfers can still be submitted to the FAs, plus there's always January to start thinking about. As always, you can see all the latest deals here.

Top Story: United move for Drinkwater

After splashing £150 million on players this summer, Jose Mourinho has discovered that money will not simply transform Manchester United back into title winners.

But it seems the Red Devils will ignore what many believe and continue to plough more funds into new recruits, with Leicester City's Danny Drinkwater potentially rejoining the club.

The Mancunian failed to break through at Old Trafford the first time around, after coming through the club's academy. Now Mourinho is keen to have a £30 million move for the England international sanctioned, according to The Sun. That could help free up Paul Pogba to flourish after his disjointed start to life in United's midfield.

Fabregas exit talks continue

Antonio Conte might have asked questions of Cesc Fabregas that the Spaniard has not experienced before. The Italian has discarded the Bues' No. 4 to the bench and challenged him to adapt his game at 29 years old.

Should the former Barcelona star opt against working to fit into Conte's regime, The Sun list Sevilla, AC Milan, Juventus, Valencia and Atletico as potential landing spots.

Still, Conte was adamant that Fabregas was part of his plans when quizzed about his future last week, and the player has duly responded to the challenge, with a League Cup double in extra-time at Leicester to lift the Blues into the fourth round.

The significance of Cesc's celebration -- sprinting the full length of the pitch to slide in front of the away fans -- suggests the player is determined to fight for his future at Stamford Bridge and might resist any offers to leave London.

After the match, Fabregas told reporters that he knows what he can do for this team and hopes his showing against Leicester will quiet some of the noise coming from "rubbish-talking" journalists.

Premier League giants circle for Martins

Gelson Martins was the best player on the pitch for 70 minutes last week at the Santiago Bernabeu, as Sporting Lisbon positioned themselves on the brink of a historic 1-0 victory over European champions Real Madrid.

Then manager Jorge Jesus inexplicably took the speedster off, and Los Merengues flipped the Champions League contest in their favour to win 2-1, but Martins won plenty of admirers that night -- so much so that Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea and West Ham United watched the 21-year-old in Sporting's 3-1 defeat at Rio Ave on Monday, according to A Bola.

The Cape Verde-born winger has a £51.4 million release clause, though, which should prevent any moves as Martins continues to develop.

Tap-ins

- New moneybags Inter Milan are coveting two of Portuguese giants Benfica's star players, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, after scouting their targets in the Eagles' 3-1 victory over Braga at the Estadio da Luz on Monday.

The Nerazzurri want Nelson Semedo and Victor Lindelof in January, but the report adds that Arsenal, Everton, Manchester United and Bayer Leverkusen scouts were in attendance to spy on Rui Vitoria's talented bunch.

- Milan fear problems with the extension of precious goalkeeping talent Gianluigi Donnarumma, due to his agent Mino Raiola's being labelled an "expensive landlord," according to the club's vice president, Adriano Galliani.

The Rossoneri executive revealed to Gazzetta dello Sport that he knows Raiola will be key in the renewal of the Italy international, who has been linked with Real Madrid.

- Former Sunderland and Manchester United defender Wes Brown is set to sign for Blackburn Rovers, according to the Lancashire Telegraph.

After training with Rovers since his release from the Black Cats, manager Owen Coyle has revealed that there could be some "positive news" concerning the player tomorrow, as he bids to solve his injury crisis.
