Gary Neville's Valencia laboured to a 1-1 draw against Primera Division strugglers Las Palmas in the first leg of their Copa del Rey quarterfinal at the Mestalla on Thursday night.
The visitors took a shock lead seven minutes before the break when Valencia defender Wilfried Zahibo headed a Las Palmas free kick past his own goalkeeper.
But Zahibo's blushes were spared on the hour mark when Valencia striker Paco Alcacer drilled a low shot home past Las Palmas keeper Raul Lizoain to give his side hope ahead of next week's second leg.
Also on Thursday, a late goal from substitute Vitolo gave hosts Sevilla breathing space as they bustled past Segunda Division Mirandes 2-0.
Steven N'Zonzi's 20th-minute opener looked like all the top-flight side were set to take into the second leg before Vitolo struck deep into injury time to seal the victory.
