Tottenham defender Kyle Walker-Peters begins trial at Roda JC

Tottenham Hotspur youngster Kyle Walker-Peters has joined Eredivisie club Roda JC on trial in what looks to be the first move in a mooted partnership between the two clubs.

Walker-Peters, 18, will join Roda at a training camp in Portugal with a view to a loan move. The defender, who signed a new Spurs contract until 2018 last month, is a regular for the club's under-21s and featured in a post-season tour of Malaysia and Australia.

Roda confirmed the trial via their official Twitter account on Tuesday and technical director Tom Caanen told Fox Sports: "We'll see if it suits either side. The intention is certainly to capture him on loan."

In August, Caanen said talks with Tottenham over a mutually-beneficial partnership similar to Chelsea's arrangement with Vitesse Arnhem were at an advanced stage.

"The cooperation is now taking off," he told Voetbal International at the time. "First in technical terms, but in the future there are interesting opportunities in areas such as youth development.

"Everything of course [will be] in consultation with our scouts and technical people. Tottenham often lends players to clubs from the lower English divisions, but they also want to have a structured line to the continent."

Caanen added that he hoped the arrangement would be finalised early this year, although neither club has so far said a partnership has been fully agreed.
