Manchester United can recall James Wilson from Brighton loan spell

Manchester United have a clause in place to recall James Wilson from his loan spell at Brighton, the Championship side's manager Chris Hughton has revealed.

Wilson, 20, joined Brighton until the end of the season last month and has already scored two goals in four appearances for the club.

United's problems up front have been well documented this season, having scored just 21 goals in 16 Premier League games, so recalling the striker could be an option for Louis van Gaal.

Under the rules of any such arrangement a player cannot return for the first 28 days, meaning Wilson could theoretically head back to the Premier League club for their Boxing Day fixture against Stoke City.

According to the Daily Mail, however, United have yet to make any contact with Brighton or Wilson about a recall.

"The deal we have for him is until the end of the season but they can call him back," Hughton is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail after Brighton's 2-2 draw at Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday.

"The reason why they wanted, and were comfortable with him coming here, is because of the lad's development -- to get meaningful games. I hope we can keep him."
