MADRID -- Villarreal say goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and will likely be sidelined for seven months.
Asenjo, who sustained the injury during his team's 1-0 defeat Wednesday by Atletico Madrid, will require surgery, the club say.

Shortly after Fernando Torres beat two defenders and Asenjo to score the only goal, the 25-year-old goalkeeper's knee buckled and he had to be substituted.
In a statement on Thursday the club wished Asenjo "a speedy and successful recovery.''
