Mexico vs. Bolivia: Miguel Layun, Javier Aquino head up El Tri player ratings

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. -- Bolivia weren't much competition for Miguel Herrera and Mexico on Tuesday night. Although El Tri secured a 1-0 win after 90 minutes of football and a few pitch invaders, fans will be slightly disappointed that there weren't more goals from the squad.

However, it isn't all doom for Herrera's men -- El Tri had more positives than negatives on the field and were still able to win the match. Erick Torres has emerged as a decent striker option for Mexico, Marco Fabian was extremely active on the field, and Javier Aquino stepped up in his first role as captain.

Herrera still has work to do with the team, but he can rest easy knowing that his squad went undefeated in their last two matches.

Here are the player ratings:

Moises Munoz (Goalkeeper) 7.5/10

Bolivia didn't test the goalkeeper very much, but he dominated his area of the field when needed. A quiet, but decent, performance from the Club America player.

Miguel Layun (Left Wing-Back) 8/10

Miguel Layun had a bit of a rocky start to the game but found some much-needed momentum with his goal in the first half. As the game progressed, so did Layun's confidence, especially on the wings and with his crosses.

Luis Venegas (Centre Back) 6.5/10

It's difficult to rate Mexico's central defenders when the game was so one-sided in possession. That being said, Luis Venegas looked like the weakest of El Tri's starting defenders and occasionally lost duels with the Bolivian attack.

Hugo Ayala (Centre Back) 7/10

Solid performance from Hugo Ayala -- although he truly wasn't tested until the second half. Ayala worked well with Hiram Mier and had little work to do in defense.

Hiram Mier (Centre Back) 7/10

Like his defensive colleagues, Hiram Mier had little trouble in the backline. However, the defender must be given credit for his long passes, and his ability to work with the midfield was excellent.

Rodolfo Pizarro (Left Wing-Back) 7/10

Good game for Rodolfo Pizarro. The El Tri youngster did well with movement down the line and linked up well with the midfield. Herrera will surely see Pizarro as a player for Mexico's future.

Antonio Rios (Defensive Midfielder) 7/10

A reserved yet decent game for Antonio Rios. Rios was able to control most of the midfield and did well to distribute passes out to the attack. I did also feel that the player was a little too quiet at times.

Javier Aquino (Attacking Midfielder) 8/10

Great game from the captain. Javier Aquino stepped up as one of the attacking midfielders and was a catalyst for plenty of Mexico's movement forward. The winger undoubtedly thrives best, as a winger, but he did an excellent job in the middle for El Tri today.

Marco Fabian (Attacking Midfielder) 7.5/10

A good performance from Marco Fabian. He looked like the most dominant player on the pitch throughout various moments of the match and moved easily through Bolivia's midfield. Another great option for Herrera to utilize in the middle.

Erick Torres (Striker) 7.5/10

An admirable audition for Erick Torres. All that was missing for the Chivas USA player was a goal. The striker was hesitant with his chances but still worked very hard up top for El Tri.

Javier Orozco (Striker) 6/10

What can you say about the striker? While the rest of the squad seldom had troubles on the pitch, Javier Orozco appeared to be the only one with real doubts.

The Santos Laguna man wasn't able to finish any of his opportunities and I highly doubt he will receive another call-up for quite some time.

Substitutes

Oribe Peralta (Striker) 6.5/10

Oribe Peralta was brought on as a second-half substitute, but wasn't able to contribute much to the attack. The striker made the occasional dangerous run with little impact in the end.

Andres Guardado (Attacking Midfielder) 7/10

Andres Guardado pressed high-up for Mexico and it was very obvious that the team was looking to secure an extra goal. Guardado almost secured the 2-0 scoreline but unfortunately hit the post.

Hector Herrera (Attacking Midfielder) 6.5/10

The Porto midfielder was substituted on late in the second half but also failed to make a serious impact. At times, Herrera held on to the ball too long and lost possession.

Paul Aguilar (Right Wing-Back) 7/10

A short time on the field for Paul Aguilar with a couple of great crosses. Aguilar was a positive influence on the wings but didn't have enough time to make a real impact.

Miguel Ponce (Left Wing-Back used as Midfield sub) ?/10

Not enough time on the pitch to justify a rating.

Oswaldo Alanis (Centre Back) ?/10

Not enough time on the pitch to justify a rating.
