Bologna upset Inter in Supercoppa semifinal shootout

Bologna goalkeeper Federico Ravaglia was the penalty hero as his side reached the Italian Supercoppa final following a 1-1 draw with Inter Milan in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Friday.

Ravaglia saved spot-kicks from Alessandro Bastoni and Ange-Yoan Bonny before Ciro Immobile slotted home the winning penalty for a 3-2 shootout success to set up a showdown with Napoli on Monday.

Serie A champions Napoli beat AC Milan 2-0 in the first semifinal on Thursday.

The Italian Supercoppa is played between the winners and runners-up of last season's Serie A and Coppa Italia, with all the games in Saudi Arabia.

Inter had taken the lead with just over a minute on the clock when Bastoni embarked on a surging run from inside his own half and crossed for Marcus Thuram to volley in at the far post.

But Coppa Italia winners Bologna were gifted an equaliser after half an hour when Yann Bisseck was penalised for handball in the area.

A VAR review upheld the decision and Riccardo Orsolini stepped up to rifle the penalty home.

Bisseck almost made amends just before half-time when he met a cross from Nicolò Barella but his header was saved by Ravaglia.

The Bologna keeper was busy early in the second half with a fine save to repel Luis Henrique's drive and another to keep out Federico Dimarco's effort.

Bologna sub Jonathan Rowe had a half-chance from a free kick but his shot was straight at Inter keeper Josep Martínez.

But Inter were the more threatening with Bastoni, Stefan de Vrij and Dimarco narrowly off target before Ravaglia denied Piotr Zielinski.

Martínez ensured the tie went to spot-kicks by keeping out Giovanni Fabbian's stoppage-time shot, but it was ultimately Ravaglia's and Bologna's night.
