USA v Italy
USWNT puts bow on 2026 with easy win over Italy
The United States put the finishing touches on 2026 with another friendly win over Italy at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Monday night in its final game of the season.
The U.S. beat Italy 3-0 on Friday with a pair of goals from Catarina Macario and the Chelsea striker picked up right where she left off before the weekend, opening the scoring Monday with a deft chip over the head of Italy keeper Francesca Durante.
Jaedyn Shaw, fresh off winning the NWSL title with Gotham FC, doubled the Americans lead right before halftime. The U.S. worked the ball out of the back through Alyssa Thompson, who picked out Shaw at the top of the area. Shaw cut onto her right foot, took an extra touch and curled her shot around Durante to make it 2-0 at the break.
The U.S. looked to have its third of the night twice in the second half, but Lily Yohannes had her sliding strike ruled out for offside and Macario's goal minutes later was disallowed for a foul before she scored.
The 2-0 victory means Emma Hayes' side finishes the 2025 campaign with a record of 12 wins, no draws and three losses.
