Luis Díaz scored twice and was sent off as 10-man Bayern Munich held on for a 2-1 Champions League win against holders Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes.

Díaz's double put impressive Bayern in control before his first-half dismissal and although PSG substitute João Neves pulled one back, the Germans held on to extend their winning start to the season to 16 games in all competitions.

Bayern climbed top of the table, above Arsenal on goal difference, while PSG slipped to their first defeat in this season's competition and their second of the season.

The German champions took the lead in the fourth minute and their flying start owed much to Serge Gnabry's brilliant flicked pass, which sent Michael Olise through on goal.

Olise's shot was saved by Lucas Chevalier and Díaz rifled home the rebound from just inside the area for his ninth goal of the season in all competitions.

Bayern's confidence soared and they continued to look the better side, with PSG guilty of giving away possession.

The French champions were denied an equaliser when VAR ruled Ousmane Dembélé was offside when he bundled home Fabian Ruiz's cross and they were punished for more sloppy play by falling 2-0 behind in the 32nd minute.

Marquinhos was dispossessed on the edge of his area by the high-pressing Díaz, who burst into the area and drilled a right-footed shot beyond Chevalier into the bottom corner.

Such was Bayern's dominance, they could have led by more at the break. Josip Stanisic's effort was ruled out for offside and Joshua Kimmich flashed an angled shot inches wide.

But the hosts were thrown a lifeline in the seventh minute of added time in the first half when Díaz was controversially sent off for his challenge on Achraf Hakimi.

Italian referee Maurizio Mariani initially showed Díaz a yellow card before upgrading it to red after being asked to view the monitor.

The dismissal had a huge bearing on the second period as 10-man Bayern sat deeper and slowed the game down, while PSG set about reducing the deficit.

For all their possession though, the home side did not create an opening until Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's low 65th-minute shot was easily gathered by Manuel Neuer, who turned away Vitinha's effort soon after.

PSG finally pulled one back in the 74th minute when Neves converted Lee Kang-in's excellent cross and the former headed inches wide as his side chased an equaliser.

Luis Enrique's side pressed for an equaliser in the closing stages, but Bayern stubbornly held on.
