Wasteful Aston Villa have to settle for point against Leicester

Aston Villa's failure to take their chances saw them held to a goalless draw at home to Leicester in the Women's Super League.

Natalia Arroyo's side have scored only four goals in their opening five matches -- and two of those came in last week's win at West Ham - and despite having 17 shots at Villa Park they could not add to that tally.

Leicester have struggled even more in front of goal with three in six matches and new manager Rick Passmoor will at least be satisfied with a point from his first permanent game in charge.

The Foxes lack of cutting edge meant they never looked like ending a run of 19 Women's Super League away games without a win, which stretches back to Feb. 2024.

Villa made much the better start and Janina Leitzig had to be at her best to keep Leicester in the game.

Ebony Salmon played in Chastity Grant to race in on goal, but was denied by the legs of Leitzig.

Then it was Salmon who found herself in on goal but again the Foxes goalkeeper came up big.

Salmon threatened again in the 14th minute as Villa piled pressure on the Leicester goal and 11 minutes before the break Missy Bo Kearns sent her clear again, however, she could find no way past the impressive Letizig.

Leicester were much improved after the break but it was Villa who again went closest when substitute Georgia Mullett headed over from close range from Kirsty Hanson's cross and while a fifth point from three matches extended their unbeaten run, it was an opportunity missed.
