Arsenal v Aston Villa
Aston Villa strike late to draw with Arsenal in WSL
Arsenal's bid to win the Women's Super League was dealt a setback after Lucy Parker scored four minutes into stoppage time to salvage a 1-1 draw for Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium.
Frida Maanum's first-half strike looked to be enough to fire the Gunners to the top of the WSL table only for Parker to strike in stoppage time.
The draw leaves a shell-shocked Arsenal one point behind defending champions Chelsea - having played a game more - with Aston Villa in 10th and still in search of their first victory of the campaign.
With Chelsea not in action until Sunday, manager Renee Slegers knew that a win against Aston Villa would allow them to move to the summit of the WSL.
And the hosts made the perfect start when they took the lead after just 10 minutes - and it was a gift for the Champions League winners.
Aston Villa attempted to play out from the back but Missy Bo Kearns' pass across the penalty area was intercepted by Mariona Caldentey before Maanum made no mistake with a cool finish past Sabrina D'Angelo.
In their previous 61 home WSL matches when they have taken the lead since the summer of 2016, Arsenal have gone on to win 58 of them, drawing the other three.
And the dominant Gunners set about doubling their tally. Following some neat build-up play, Emily Fox found Alessia Russo with the England international's shot drawing a save from D'Angelo midway through the opening period.
Then, Maanum looked set to score when she slid in at the back post to meet Beth Mead's delivery but could not get a touch on the ball.
Despite their dominance, Arsenal held only a slender one-goal advantage at the break, and the Villans were almost on level terms just eight minutes into the second half.
Substitute Kirsty Hanson saw off the attention of Katie Reid, and her pass found Chasity Grant whose effort slid narrowly wide.
Russo then gave the ball away on the edge of her area, and Hanson's long-range effort fizzed just past Daphne van Domselaar's post.
With 11 minutes remaining Arsenal registered their first shot of a poor second half when Katie McCabe forced a fine save from D'Angelo.
But Villa were still in the game, and in the first of seven minutes of injury time, Kearns' header was dealt with by Van Domselaar before the Arsenal goalkeeper was called into action moments later when she tipped Lynn Wilms' free-kick over the bar.
But from Wilms' resulting corner, Parker prodded home to earn a well-earned point for Natalia Arroyo's side and condemn Arsenal to back-to-back draws.
