Barcelona rally to beat Sociedad, back on top in LaLiga

Barcelona climbed to the top of LaLiga after coming from a goal down to beat Real Sociedad 2-1.

Barça took full advantage of Real Madrid's 5-2 derby defeat by Atletico Madrid on Saturday to move a point clear at the summit.

They trailed to Alvaro Odriozola's goal but hit back through Jules Koundé and Robert Lewandowski for a sixth win in seven league matches this season.

Marcus Rashford almost opened the scoring from the edge of the box, but his shot was tipped over by Sociedad goalkeeper Álex Remiro.

Remiro also comfortably dealt with long-range efforts from Ronald Araújo and Roony Bardghji.

He was beaten by Lewandowski after the Poland striker was cleverly played through by Rashford, but his chip bounced wide from a tight angle.

Yet it was the visitors who took a shock lead just after the half-hour mark when Ander Barrenetxea got clear down the left and crossed for Odriozola to slide the ball home.

Remiro preserved their advantage when he made a smart reaction save to prevent an Igor Zubeldia own goal and then tipped Bardghji's shot wide.

But the keeper could do nothing to stop Barça hauling themselves level just before half-time when full-back Kounde headed in a Rashford corner.

Lamine Yamal, named the best young player in Europe last week, paraded his trophy before the match and came on as a substitute just before the hour.

And within seconds the 18-year-old helped put Barça ahead, racing into the box before sitting a perfect cross up for Lewandowski to head home.

Lewandowski almost had a second but volleyed straight at Remiro, who then did well to keep out an awkward, bouncing drive from Rashford and a long-range effort from Dani Olmo.

Manchester United loanee Rashford was unable to cap another fine shift with a goal as he curled a shot narrowly wide before being replaced by Ferran Torres with 12 minutes to go.

Then Real were inches from levelling the match when substitute Takefusa Kubo latched on to a defensive error and rattled the crossbar.

Barça charged up the other end and Lamal and Torres combined to tee up Lewandowski, who thudded a shot off the the underside of Remiro's crossbar.

The ball came back out to the veteran frontman but he was unable to steer an overhead kick home.
