Nine-man Leverkusen win 1st game since Ten Hag sacking
Bayer Leverkusen boss Kasper Hjulmand won his first Bundesliga game in charge as his side beat Eintracht Frankfurt 3-1 after finishing the game with nine men.
Alex Grimaldo's free kick and Patrik Schick's penalty gave Leverkusen a 2-0 half-time lead and although Can Uzun pulled one back for Frankfurt early in the second period, Grimaldo converted a second free-kick in time added on.
Leverkusen skipper Robert Andrich was sent off with just over half an hour left and fellow midfielder Ezequiel Fernández saw red in stoppage time -- both for second yellow cards -- but Hjulmand's side held on for their first win of the season.
Former Denmark coach Hjulmand was appointed on Monday as successor to Erik ten Hag, who was sacked last week after just two Bundesliga games in charge.
Frankfurt had beaten Werder Bremen 4-1 and Hoffenheim 3-1 in their first two league matches, but they fell behind in the 10th minute when Grimaldo curled home a fine free kick into the bottom corner.
Frankfurt goalkeeper Michael Zetterer kept Leverkusen at bay until just before the break when Czechia forward Schick converted the home side's second from the spot following former Leeds defender Robin Koch's foul on Nathan Tella.
Turkey midfielder Uzun hauled Frankfurt back into it early in the second half when he fired into the top corner from the edge of the box after a corner.
Leverkusen midfielder Andrich received his second yellow card for his 59th-minute challenge on Ritsu Doan and Argentina's Fernández followed him in stoppage time for a reckless tackle.
The hosts went close to a third goal through defender Nnamdi Collins' shot, which hit the crossbar, before Grimaldo struck his second deep in stoppage time via another free kick.
