Paris Saint-Germain win first Ligue 1 Paris derby since 1978

Ousmane Dembélé scored a second-half winner as Paris Saint-Germain retained bragging rights in the French capital with a 2-1 win over Paris FC at the Parc des Princes.

The city neighbors have only met three times in Ligue 1 play, with the last game between them a 1-1 draw in 1978.

Dembélé fired home a heavily-deflected effort moments after the visitors had grabbed a shock leveller through a 51st-minute penalty from Willem Geubbels.

PSG, who had led through Desire Doue's strike on the stroke of halftime, held on with ease to take the win and move within one point of Ligue 1 leaders Lens.

Paris FC went into the game winless in five and underscored their status as heavy underdogs throughout the first period as they seldom managed to test their illustrious opponents' defence.

Paris FC goalkeeper Kevin Trapp saved from both Senny Mayulu and Fabián Ruiz in the first half-hour, while Doue and João Neves also came close and Vitinha drilled a shot wide as PSG dominated.

The hosts finally took the lead on the stroke of halftime when Jonathan Ikoné gave the ball away in midfield and Ruiz pounced, threading a pass to Doue who crashed home the opener from just inside the box.

The visitors seized their chance after a rare attacking move early in the second half when Alimami Gory bore down on goal from the left flank.

He was nudged off the ball by Illia Zabarnyi to earn a spot kick that Geubbels confidently buried to Lucas Chevalier's left to give the underdogs an improbable equaliser.

But their joy lasted little more than a minute as PSG responded by pressing forward on a counter-attack where Warren Zaïre-Emery played Dembélé clear on the right and his curling shot took a deflection and wrong-footed Trapp.

Bradley Barcola could have added to his side's advantage, but the favourites seemed more than content to play down the clock with the minimum of fuss as Paris FC failed to threaten.

Their only half-chance followed the introduction of the bright Vincent Marchetti, who immediately tested Chevalier with a low drive before following up with a bouncing volley that the keeper comfortably saved.

The two sides will meet again on Jan. 12 in the round of 32 of the French Cup.
