Man United reach third consecutive FA Cup final with derby win
Manchester United secure spot in Women's FA Cup final
Defending champions Manchester United will return to Wembley for the Women's FA Cup final after defeating local rivals Manchester City 2-0.
Manchester United secured their third straight trip to Wembley for the Women's FA Cup final with a 2-0 win over rivals Manchester City on Sunday.
United were quick off the mark in the fiery Manchester derby with Celin Bizet finding the net in the sixth minute. Ella Toone, who scored in last years final against Tottenham Hotspur, made a well-timed pass down the field to find an unmarked Bizet who controlled the ball perfectly before whipping it into the top right corner.
An injury-depleted City side struggled to keep up with United's counter-attacks in the first half and they suffered their second setback of the afternoon when Mary Fowler injured her knee, forcing an early substitution for the home side.
City were forced into playing with 10 players before Naomi Layzell could enter the pitch and United capitalised on their numerical advantage from a corner.
Grace Clinton got the better of her opponent Gracie Prior and met Gabby George's cross into the six-yard box.
Layzell eventually took Fowler's place in the team, forcing Kerolin into the centre-forward role.
United slowed down the pace in the second half after a high-energy opening 45 minutes that had effectively sealed their spot in the final, but City exhibited no signs of giving up.
City's hopes of a goal peaked in the second half when Yui Hasegawa was awarded a free kick just outside the box, but she was unable to beat United goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce who made a sensational save to deny the Japan international before recovering to stop Lily Murphy's attempt at the rebound.
United will face Chelsea in the final after Aggie Beever-Jones scored a 94th minute winner against Liverpool on Saturday.
