Revs give up 2-0 lead, rally for draw vs. Sporting KC
The New England Revolution gave up a two-goal halftime lead, but used a late goal to level the match in a 3-3 draw at Sporting Kansas City on Saturday night.
New England (5-4-4, 19 points) owns a seven-match unbeaten streak (4-0-3).
Sporting KC (3-8-4, 13 points) appeared lackluster in the opening half but surged ahead with three goals in an eight-minute span to take a 3-2 lead before New England leveled the match.
Sporting played its first game since the loss of former teammate Gadi Kinda, who passed away Tuesday from an undisclosed medical condition. The team wore black armbands that read "Gadi."
In the 53rd minute, halftime substitute Erik Thommy dribbled through multiple New England defenders and fired a shot at keeper Aliaz Ivacic. The ball deflected back to Daniel Salloi, who converted.
Six minutes later, Salloi charged toward the net. His shot was turned away by Ivacic, but Dejan Joveljic was taken down in the box for a penalty. Joveljic converted the penalty kick to draw SKC even.
Then in the 61st minute, Sporting KC's Manu Garcia collected a crossing pass from Thommy and fired it past a diving Ivacic for a 3-2 lead.
New England appeared to tie the match in the 76th minute, but Ignatius Ganago was ruled offside on the play.
The Revolution did tie it in the 84th minute. Luis Diaz drove deep into the box before passing it to Maxi Urruti, who touched it past keeper John Pulskamp. It was Urruti's first goal since 2023.
New England got on the scoreboard in the 14th minute. With a buildup in the Sporting KC end, Ganago drove into the left portion of the box and slid a pass to the center, where Tomas Chancalay's right-footed shot beat Pulskamp.
The Revolution made it 2-0 in the 23rd minute after another defensive breakdown by the SKC back line. Ray Feingold found Peyton Miller alone on the left side. Miller passed to the middle and the ball caromed off SKC defender Jacob Bartlett. Even if Bartlett hadn't deflected it, Alhassan Yusuf likely would have chipped it in.
