Chelsea snatch a late victory at Man City

Erin Cuthbert scores a dramatic 91st-minute winner against title rivals Manchester City

A stoppage-time header from Erin Cuthbert helped Chelsea come from behind to seal a 2-1 victory over Manchester City in the Women's Super League on Sunday.

City's Kerolin opened the scoring at the Etihad Stadium as she completed a long dribble into the box and slotted home.

The game took a controversial turn when the hosts thought they had doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time as Jess Park struck home from outside the box, only for the referee to blow up for a free-kick.

Referee Kirsty Dowle actually awarded the free-kick to City. She had blown her whistle prematurely, and wrongly disallowed Park's effort.

"The officials admit they got it wrong and should have played on," City boss Nick Cushing said after the match.

"The frustrating thing is after the [Laura] Coombs foul earlier on, because we were so dangerous on the counter attack when the whistle was blown on Coombs I asked her to play advantage. But three minutes later, it happens."

Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor later said she too would be frustrated if she were Cushing. Still, that reprieve gave Chelsea the chance to get back in the game.

The WSL holders fought back and dominated the second half, levelling through Aggie Beever-Jones after a well-worked move. Cuthbert energetic run and diving header in the game's final moments then sealed a memorable Chelsea win.

The result means Chelsea restored their eight-point lead atop the WSL, while City stay in fourth place.
