Amirah Ali and Delphine Cascarino scored early goals as the visiting San Diego Wave FC held off the Utah Royals 2-1 on Saturday at America First Field.

San Diego started strong with Ali scoring from close range just a minute into the game with an assist from Cascarino. Five minutes later, Cascarino doubled the Wave's lead with a left-footed shot from the center of the box, assisted by Makenzy Doniak.

Utah came out more aggressive after halftime. In the 59th minute, Dana Foederer set up Cloé Lacasse, who fired a left-footed shot from outside the box into the bottom right corner of the net to cut San Diego's lead in half. An attempt by Utah's Ana Tejada to equalize just a minute later was saved in the top left corner.

The final whistle blew after nine minutes of stoppage time in which Utah had multiple corners but failed to convert any into goals and Kate Del Fava missed a header that could have leveled the score.

San Diego goalkeeper Hillary Beall made three saves to maintain her team's advantage.
