Elizabeth Ball goals lifts Kansas City Current over Utah Royals

The Kansas City Current secured a 1-0 victory over the Utah Royals on Saturday at America First Field. Elizabeth Ball's goal in the 58th minute proved to be the difference-maker, as she capitalized on a headed pass from Claire Hutton after a corner kick.

K.C. goalkeeper Adrianna Franch stopped both shots on goal Utah managed, one each by Macey Fraser and Kate Del Fava, as the Royals lost their fifth straight game and their winless streak hit eight games.

Other notable performances for Kansas City included Temwa Chawinga, who kept Utah's defense under pressure with four shots that got saved by goalkeeper Mandy Haught. Michelle Cooper and Debinha both also had multiple shots blocked or saved. Izzy Rodriguez played a significant role at both ends of the field, contributing assists and winning free kicks that helped maintain possession for her team.

The first half saw few clear-cut chances as both teams struggled to break down each other's defenses. A yellow card issued early in the game to Ana Tejada of Utah set the tone for what would be a physical contest. Gabrielle Robinson of Kansas City had to leave the field with an injury late in the first half, which had a silver lining for the Current because she was replaced by Ball.

The Royals had opportunities but failed to convert any into goals.
