Portland Thorns edge Washington Spirit 2-1

First-half goals from Sam Coffey and Christine Sinclair led the Portland Thorns FC to a 2-1 victory over the Washington Spirit on Saturday at Portland's Providence Park. 

Coffey opened the scoring in the fourth minute with a precise right-footed shot from the center of the box, assisted by Hina Sugita. Sinclair doubled Portland's advantage in the 22nd minute, capitalizing on an assist from Isabella Obaze following a set-piece situation.

Lena Silano brought Washington back into contention with her header goal assisted by Trinity Rodman in the 86th minute. But, ultimately, the Spirit failed to score again and were handed their third loss of the season.
