That came after a series of St. Louis chances a few minutes earlier. Nokkvi Thorisson and Joao Klauss had shots blocked in the 22nd and 23rd minutes, respectively. Before that, Lowen had a shot from outside the box go high and wide in the 19th minute.
In the third minute of first-half extra time, Aziel Jackson headed a Lowen crosser to the top right corner of the goal, but Salt Lake goaltender Zac MacMath gobbled it up.
Salt Lake went on the offensive to get the second half underway, as Pablo Ruiz and Christian Arango both missed the mark about five minutes in and a Justen Glad header try was blocked in the 52nd minute.
The visitors had two corner kicks in that stretch, including Braian Ojeda's shot that sailed wide in the 55th minute.
With the draw, Salt Lake ensured that the club still hasn't lost its first two outings to begin a season in its history.
