Club World Cup: Monterrey beat Al-Jazira to claim fifth place
Liga MX side Monterrey beat Al-Jazira 3-1 on Wednesday to capture fifth place at the Club World Cup.
The victory over the tournament hosts at Abu Dhabi's Al Nahyan Stadium ensured Los Rayados, the CONCACAF Champions League winners, left the United Arab Emirates on a high note after a previous loss to CAF Champions League holders Al Ahly of Egypt.
An early own goal by Zayed Sultan, followed by first-half strikes from Rogelio Funes Mori and Cesar Montes, ensured the win for Monterrey. Bruno gave the UAE's depending top-flight champions the sole consolation in stoppage time.
Later on Wednesday, Chelsea booked their spot in the final with a 1-0 over AFC Champions League holders Al Hihal of Saudi Arabia.
The Blues, winners of the UEFA Champions League, will take on Copa Libertadores holders Palmeiras in the final on Saturday. The Brazilian side had beaten Al Ahly on Tuesday to advance.
