Atlanta beats Alajuelense to advance in CONCACAF Champions League

Atlanta United FC beat Alajuelense 1-0 (2-0 on aggregate) to advance into the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals.

Jurgen Damm scored in waning seconds for hosts Atlanta, who had defeated Alajuelense 1-0 in Costa Rica last week.

Atlanta advanced thanks to Jurgen Damm's late goal.

Both sides had scoring opportunities throughout the match at Fifth Third Bank Stadium. Atlanta goalkeeper Rocco Rios Novo made a key save from Junior Diaz's header from a corner kick before Damm clinched the match with his goal.

Atlanta now awaits the winners beween Philadelphia Union and Saprissa in the competition's other match-up featuring an MLS club and a Costa Rica side.
