Mason Greenwood helps Manchester United to Europa League group win
Mason Greenwood once again took his chances when given the opportunity, scoring twice and drawing a penalty as Manchester United beat AZ Alkmaar 4-0 at Old Trafford on Thursday to win Europa League Group L.
The two teams were already through to the knockouts, but the group winner depended on the result of this game and a nervy, goalless first half gave no hint of what the second 45 minutes held in store.
Ashley Young opened the scoring in the 53rd minute, finishing off a fine team move from United with a powerful shot into the roof of the net, before Greenwood added his first shortly after to make it 2-0.
Greenwood then drew a penalty with a hard-charging run into the Alkmaar area and Juan Mata stepped up to dispatch the spot kick, before the United academy grad scored his second with a low shot to the near post to put his team four goals to the good.
The pair of goals made Greenwood the youngest player to score a brace in major European competition for Man United at 18 years and 72 days.
United will find out their round-of-32 opponent after Monday's Europa League draw.
