Di Maria hat trick sends PSG into Coupe de France quarters
Paris Saint-Germain are into the quarterfinals of the Coupe de France after beating Sochaux 4-1 on Tuesday night at the Stade Bonal.
Angel Di Maria had the three-time defending champions ahead in the first minute, heading a Kylian Mbappe cross past Sochaux goalkeeper Lawrence Ati.
But the Ligue 2 hosts struck back before the quarter-hour mark courtesy of some nifty footwork from Florian Martin to control and half-volley a shot into the net after a scramble in front of the goalmouth.
Di Maria should have had his second goal minutes after the Sochaux equaliser, but somehow he failed to get a boot on a deflected Mbappe shot as it skirted across the goal line in front of him.
PSG then retook the lead before 30 minutes when a sliding Edinson Cavani redirected a Layvin Kurzawa cross into the net at the back post to give Unai Emery's team a 2-1 lead at the break.
And Di Maria would get his second in the 57th minute, after Marco Verratti played him in behind the Sochaux backline where the Argentina international took one touch and then fired his second into the back of Ati's net.
Minutes later it was Di Maria again for his hat trick, as he cooly poked home at the far post after Ati palmed a Cavani shot right into his path.
Dani Alves finished the match in goal after Emery had used all his substitutes and Kevin Trapp was sent off with a straight red card in stoppage time.
