Adam Morgan's brace helps Curzon Ashton past Westfields in FA Cup
A double from former Liverpool striker Adam Morgan helped secure Curzon Ashton a 3-1 win in their Emirates FA Cup first-round replay with Westfields FC.
Morgan's first-half double was just reward for Curzon's early dominance and the striker will have been relieved to make up for an open-goal miss just minutes before the opener.
It was cruel on Westfields defender James Febery, who saw his attempted block deflect Morgan's shot into the back of the net.
The second came soon after, this time the clinical striker needed no assistance as his curling effort left Keiron Blackburn helpless.
Despite some pressure from Westfields, who tried to use Dan Polan's pace on the break, they could not find a passage back into the game.
And as Westfields began to tire it was the hosts who re-took the initiative, with Morgan blowing a golden chance for his hat-trick as he struck the post when clean through on goal.
Iain Howard went close after a penalty box scramble before captain Niall Cummins did grab the third, dinking the ball over Blackburn with 20 minutes remaining to guarantee a second-round clash with either Bury or AFC Wimbledon.
However, Westfields got reward for their efforts with a stoppage-time goal, as substitute Nick Harrhy tapped home.
