The FIFA Council on Friday approved plans to expand the Women's World Cup to 48 teams, a source confirmed to ESPN.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino announced on Wednesday the eight host cities for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup in Brazil.

U.S. Soccer CEO JT Batson said the federation would strongly support expansion of the Women's World Cup to 48 teams in 2031.
