MONTREAL -- Canadiens All-Star defenseman Andrei Markov will be out for at least four months after slicing a tendon in his ankle.
The team said on Friday that Markov had surgery in a Toronto hospital. He was injured when goaltender Carey Price caught his teammate with his skate during Montreal's 4-3 overtime victory on Thursday night.
Markov was coming off a career season for the Canadiens with 64 points.
Montreal plays in Buffalo on Saturday.
