U.S. Speedskating hires coaches Anthony Barthell, Alex Izykowski

KEARNS, Utah -- US Speedskating has hired Anthony Barthell to coach the men's national short track team and promoted Olympic medalist Alex Izykowski to coach of the women's national short track team.

Barthell spent the previous two years in the same job for the Australian national team. Before that, he was an assistant on the 2014 U.S. Olympic team. The 38-year-old former speedskater has previously coached the U.S. junior world team and was a team leader at the 2013 world meet.

Izykowski was part of the bronze medal-winning 5,000-meter relay team at the 2006 Turin Olympics. He assisted in various capacities at the 2010 Vancouver Games and was an assistant at the 2014 Games in Sochi, Russia. The 31-year-old spent the last two seasons as short track program manager and assistant coach.

The short track season begins in November.
