Payne Haas is considering making himself available to play Test football for Samoa but will leave a definitive call until after the State of Origin series.
The 25-year-old Brisbane prop, who has Samoan heritage, has represented Australia in four Tests and played 14 State of Origin games for NSW.
Samoa have a Pacific Cup campaign at the end of 2025 and will contest the World Cup at the end of 2026 after reaching the final in 2022.
Haas said he wanted to address recent reports about a possible Samoa switch honestly.
"I will be transparent and honest. I have been considering it, but I won't make a decision until after Origin," Haas said.
"So I can put that to bed right now.
"It's about representing my grandparents, my grandfather is getting pretty old to be honest and I grew up around my Samoan family.
"So I'd be silly not to consider it. I want to represent them and I'll make that decision after Origin. I'm not 100% yet so we will see what happens."
Haas's NSW teammates Stephen Crichton and Jarome Luai represent tier-two nation Samoa at Test level and play for the Blues. That is within the rules so Haas does not have to rush his call.
Haas, who was born in Newcastle, said he also had an affinity with the Kangaroos.
"It means the world to play for Australia. I don't take the green-and-gold jumper lightly. I grew up here in Australia and Australia has given me lots of opportunities as well," he said.
"I'm not sure what the key factor will be. I am just worried about playing for the Broncos and delivering for the boys here and when that times when I have to make a decision I will."
Any ramifications from the Australian hierarchy, including coach Mal Meninga, are not on Haas's radar right now.
" I know what will happen if I do make the decision to switch, but after Origin I'll decide what to do," he said.
Haas, on contract at Brisbane until the end of 2026, becomes a free agent on November 1 but said contract talk was the furthest thing from his mind.
The items on the agenda are beating Wests Tigers at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night and down the track breaking a 19-year title drought.
"That's my ultimate goal. I just want to deliver a premiership this year," he said.
"This club is bigger than me so all that contract stuff I don't care about at the moment."
