Former NFL quarterback Jeff Garcia told a Cleveland radio station Tuesday that he called the Cleveland Browns seeking a tryout.
As if the team's quarterback situation isn't quirky enough.
Garcia sounded serious, though, when he told 92.3 The Fan that he sought a chance to solve the Browns' quarterback predicament.
"I actually reached out to the Browns and said, 'Hey, if you need a guy to come in, work me out, take a look,'" Garcia, 43, said.
The last time he was in the NFL was 2011. The last time he started a game in the NFL was 2008 -- although he did start for the UFL's Omaha Nighthawks in 2010.
He had a tough stint with the Browns in 2004, when he started 10 games and won just three.
"I don't know if people want me back in Cleveland, but I'm open to the opportunity," Garcia said.
Brandon Weeden has had two rough games since he returned as the starter following Brian Hoyer's knee injury. He ranks 32nd in the league in completion percentage, 30th in yards per attempt.
After Weeden threw for 149 yards on 42 passes in a 31-13 loss to Green Bay on Sunday, coach Rob Chudzinski said he'd evaluate the position before deciding on this week's starter.
The Browns are expected to announce who will start Sunday's game in Kansas City on Wednesday, but the team released a depth chart with its weekly news release, and Weeden is listed as No. 1 and Jason Campbell as No. 2.
Garcia thought he could be an answer. Maybe next week the Browns will get a call from Don Strock.
