NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee Titans wide receiver Calvin Ridley suffered a broken fibula in Sunday's 16-13 loss to the Houston Texans and will sit out the rest of the season, interim coach Mike McCoy said.
"I feel for him," McCoy said. "He worked so hard to get back to where he was and obviously that happened."
Ridley caught a pass from Cam Ward on Tennessee's first offensive play and favored his right ankle as he limped off the field with the help of the Titans' training staff. The veteran receiver was then carted into the locker room.
Ridley had been out since Week 6 when he injured his hamstring after playing only six snaps in Tennessee's 20-10 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. Defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons spent a lot of time with Ridley rehabbing from a hamstring injury he suffered a week after Ridley's.
"We were both in that training room. I saw how bad he wanted it. I saw how he was working to get back from the hamstring. It sucks," Simmons said.
Before his injury, Ridley was the recipient of a team-high 35 targets from Ward. Ridley has caught 17 passes for 301 yards this season.
"He was one of the first people to show me just what it is to be a pro day in and day out when I got to Tennessee," Ward said. "It's sad for him to go down like that. It's just a bad feeling for the offense because we lose a dynamic playmaker even if he doesn't get the ball. It's Calvin Ridley, you got to respect him. He brings that threat to a defense and it's going to suck that we won't have him."
Ridley signed a four-year, $92 million contract with the Titans in March 2024. Tennessee could save $13.7 million against the cap if they release Ridley after the season.
Titans wide receiver/returner Chimere Dike was also ruled out of Sunday's game because of a chest injury. He sustained his injury after muffing a punt just before halftime. The rookie return man was leading the NFL in all-purpose and return yards entering Week 11.
