Tests confirmed Cleveland Browns rookie linebacker Carson Schwesinger suffered a high ankle sprain in Sunday's loss to the New England Patriots, a source told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler on Monday.
Browns coach Kevin Stefanski wouldn't confirm the exact nature of Schwesinger's injury Monday but described Schwesinger's status as week-to-week. He said he did not believe the Browns would need to place Schwesinger on injured reserve.
Schwesinger leads the Browns with 64 tackles this season and has started the team's first eight games.
He recorded his first NFL interception Sunday, picking off a Drake Maye pass in the second quarter of Cleveland's 32-13 loss.
The Browns selected Schwesinger in the second round of the 2025 draft out of UCLA.
Meanwhile, rookie running back Quinshon Judkins, who sustained a shoulder injury in Sunday's game, hopes to return to the Browns' lineup after their bye this week, a source told Fowler.
Stefanski said Monday that Judkins' status was day-to-day.
Judkins' last snap came with 8:24 left in the third quarter, after he caught a 2-yard pass from rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel.
Judkins, also picked in the second round of the 2025 draft, ran for 19 yards on nine carries and caught three passes for minus-2 yards before exiting. He leads the Browns with 486 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns.
ESPN's Daniel Oyefusi contributed to this report.
