RENTON, Wash. -- The Seattle Seahawks have signed general manager John Schneider to a four-year contract extension, the team announced Wednesday.
Schneider, the longest-tenured and most successful GM in franchise history, is now signed through 2031.
"The extension of General Manager John Schneider's contract is a testament to his 15-plus years of football leadership and success," Seahawks chair Jody Allen, who has served as the team's de facto owner since 2018, said in a statement. "I am confident that John will continue to deliver real results and a continued strong partnership with head coach Mike Macdonald that is already contributing to our winning culture on and off the field."
Schneider, who also holds the title of president of football operations, had been under contract through the 2027 draft as part of the extension he signed following the 2020 season. His latest extension comes two days after Allen made a rare appearance at training camp along with vice chair Bert Kolde.
Speaking to reporters Wednesday afternoon, Schneider thanked Allen, Kolde and team president Chuck Arnold. He called it "unbelievable" to potentially spend two decades in Seattle.
"I had a trigger in my contract after the draft and, at that point, we started talking and we just kept it going," he said. "To have drafted here 16 times, this is where [wife] Traci and I want to be, and we just kept working together. We thank God it worked out."
Since arriving in Seattle in 2010 along with then-coach Pete Carroll, Schneider has overseen the winningest stretch in franchise history. In that span, the Seahawks have made 10 playoff appearances, with two trips to the Super Bowl and one championship. Their .605 regular-season winning percentage since 2010 is the sixth best in the NFL.
Schneider, 54, added the title of president of football operations, giving him final say over personnel matters, in January 2024 after Carroll was ousted. He led the search to replace Carroll, which resulted in the hiring of Macdonald.
