Sources: Dolphins not expected to franchise-tag Jevon Holland

The Miami Dolphins are not expected to place the franchise tag on safety Jevon Holland, sources told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, making him a free agent.

Holland finished with a career-low 62 tackles in 2024 and failed to record an interception. His highlight of the season came in Week 1, when he forced a critical red zone fumble in a victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

A second-round pick (No. 36 overall) by the Dolphins in 2021, Holland started 13 games as a rookie. Under then-defensive coordinator Josh Boyer, Holland was employed frequently as a blitzer, trailing only teammate Brandon Jones for the most pressures by a defensive back that season. He was named a captain the following season -- the youngest team captain in franchise history.

He built on his strong rookie season with 96 tackles in 2022 and followed it with a 74-tackle campaign in 2023. While Holland only recorded one interception in 2023, it was a memorable one -- a 99-yard pick-six against the New York Jets on Black Friday, in which he intercepted Tim Boyle's Hail Mary attempt as time expired in the first half. Holland also forced a career-high three fumbles that season.

Holland drew attention on social media when the Dolphins parted ways with defensive coordinator Vic Fangio after the 2023 season; he posted a video to his Instagram account, drop-kicking a handful of rocks. He praised new defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver months later for his ability to connect with his players.

Holland has five interceptions, five forced fumbles and 301 tackles in four seasons.
