Defense won this championship.

Led by a smothering defensive unit, the Philadelphia Eagles overwhelmed the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX.

Playing in front of an overwhelmingly pro-Philadelphia crowd, the Eagles captured their second Lombardi Trophy and thwarted the Chiefs' bid at an unprecedented Super Bowl three-peat.

Led by Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis and Milton Williams, the Eagles' defensive line was the difference in their defensive domination. Despite not facing a single blitz, quarterback Patrick Mahomes was sacked a career-high six times and committed three turnovers. Mahomes threw two first-half interceptions, including a 38-yard pick-six to rookie defensive back Cooper DeJean.

And while the Eagles' defense frustrated the Chiefs and kept them off-kilter all night, Philly's offense sliced through Kansas City's defense. Though Steve Spagnuolo's unit limited Saquon Barkley to 57 rushing yards, Jalen Hurts had an efficient performance completing 17 of 22 pass attempts for 221 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Hurts also led the Eagles with 72 rushing yards and added another score with a first-quarter tush push touchdown.
