Bill O'Brien says he won't bench Brock Osweiler for Tom Savage

HOUSTON -- Houston Texans coach Bill O'Brien said he will not bench quarterback Brock Osweiler for backup Tom Savage.

"No," O'Brien said when asked about starting Savage. "We're going to come in here tomorrow, we're going to correct mistakes, and move on to Green Bay."

In the Texans' 21-13 loss to the San Diego Chargers on Sunday, Osweiler was 22-for-37 for 246 yards, with no touchdowns and three interceptions. He had a passer rating of 45.6, his lowest of the season.

Though Osweiler did not throw a touchdown, he did score the Texans' lone touchdown on a 1-yard run in the second quarter.

"I didn't play very good today," Osweiler said. "I feel like I left a lot out there on the field, that I could have done much better. I could have done a much better job in certain situations.

"I really felt like those guys went out there and truly battled and played great football, and bottom line I need to play better for us to win. I feel like our team gave us the opportunity to win today and I didn't play up to what I'm capable of doing, and that's on me and I'll get that cleaned up."

Osweiler has struggled this season, completing just 59.5 percent of his passes for an average of 5.8 yards per attempt. He has 12 touchdown passes and 13 interceptions, 10 of which have come at home.

"I know we've had some ups and we've had some downs, and you'd like to see steady improvement, but sometimes that doesn't take place," Osweiler said. "I'm very optimistic about what this team can accomplish because this is a damn good football team, and I let them down today. I need to play better.
