GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Aaron Rodgers thinks he'll be ready for Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions. He'll also be ready if the Packers have to change their game plan because of his calf injury.
"I'm sure we can adjust accordingly if I'm not ready to fully move around," Rodgers said Tuesday. "But I'd like to think with the Christmas holiday and everything that comes with it, that I'll be able to move around well enough."
Rodgers practiced with the team on Tuesday, which is normally the players' day off. But coach Mike McCarthy instead gave them off Thursday for Christmas, so Tuesday's session consisted mostly of individual drills and half-speed periods.
Rodgers took part in the portion that was open to reporters and looked fine throwing the ball. However, none of those drills required any running.
"Aaron looked great," McCarthy said after practice. "He's getting better."
Rodgers strained his left calf in last Sunday's win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but remained in the game. However, McCarthy ditched most of the roll-out passes on his play sheet and instead opted to keep his quarterback in the pocket. Rodgers was still effective, completing 31-of-40 passes for 318 yards and a touchdown in the 20-3 victory.
Rodgers also battled a case of the flu during the game.
"I'm feeling good, except for the sickness and the calf thing," Rodgers joked on Tuesday. "Other than that, I'm great."
The winner of Sunday's game captures the NFC North title and if it's the Packers, they also will receive a first-round bye in the playoffs. Both teams have already clinched playoff berths. The Packers are trying to complete an unbeaten season at home, while the Lions are looking for their first win in Wisconsin since 1991.
