Giants eye Peyton Hillis, Ryan Torain

The New York Giants waived running back Da'Rel Scott for the second time in two weeks and are likely to add at least one new running back Wednesday from a group of candidates that includes former "Madden" cover player Peyton Hillis, as well as former Giants Ryan Torain and D.J. Ware.

Scott was released two weeks ago and re-signed last week following the injury to starter David Wilson. But Scott injured his hamstring in Thursday's loss to the Chicago Bears and was officially designated Tuesday as waived/injured.

With Wilson out a few more weeks at least, due to a neck injury and Brandon Jacobs, who rushed for 106 yards Thursday, having sat out Monday's practice with his own hamstring injury, the Giants need coverage at the position. So they worked out several running backs Tuesday, including Hillis, Torain, Ware and former Louisville running back Jeremy Wright, who was in their minicamp for a few days this spring as an undrafted free agent.

All who worked out Tuesday will return Wednesday for physicals, according to a source, and the Giants are likely to sign one and possibly two.

With Scott's release and Jacobs' and Wilson's injuries, the only healthy halfback on the Giants' roster at this time is rookie Michael Cox, who has yet to receive a single carry in a regular-season game.
