Four-time Olympian Matthew Dellavedova has agreed to a multiyear deal with the Sydney Kings, sources told ESPN.
Dellavedova spent the last two seasons with Melbourne United, playing a primary role in leading them to back-to-back NBL Championship Series.
The 34-year-old entered NBL Free Agency on Friday as the league's most sought-after player, and will now join former Australian Boomers head coach Brian Goorjian at the Kings. Dellavedova's long-time Boomers teammate, Andrew Bogut, was recently announced as an assistant coach in Sydney.
United, the Perth Wildcats, and Brisbane Bullets were the other NBL teams pursuing Dellavedova, sources said; he informed them of his decision on Sunday morning. Dellavedova had conducted visits to his free agent suitors over the past week, sources said, beginning in Perth, before traveling to Sydney and Brisbane. He was seeking a high-priced, multiyear deal that would keep him contracted through to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Dellavedova averaged 11.2 points and 7.3 assists per game over the course of the most recent NBL regular season and playoffs for United, and was named the 2025 Championship Series MVP, despite his team falling to the Illawarra Hawks in Game 5.
Dellavedova is most well-known for his nine-year stint in the NBA, playing a key role in the Cleveland Cavaliers' championship campaign in 2016.
Dellavedova's value this offseason came from him being a point guard a team can designate as a marquee player -- lowering his spend on a team's cap -- who can shift the culture of a franchise in a positive way.
The Kings are coming off a season where they finished 16-13, but failed to make the playoffs after falling to the Adelaide 36ers in the play-in tournament.
Goorjian's team will bring back the majority of its roster, with Dellavedova set to join Xavier Cooks, Bul Kuol, Kouat Noi, Keli Leaupepe, Jaylin Galloway, Tyler Robertson, Shaun Bruce, and Jason Spurgin as contracted players on the Kings as free agency continues.
